When I ask people about getting their children under chiropractic care, the response I usually get is “But my child doesn’t have back pain”. Children don’t need to have pain to benefit from chiropractic care. The first stress placed on a child’s neck and back is during the birthing process. An estimated 60-90 pounds of traction is used on an infant’s neck during a “normal” delivery. Do you think this could cause damage to your child’s spine and nervous system?
New research shows that 95% of children are born with an upper neck misalignment, which puts pressure on the brain stem and upper spinal cord causing nerve interference. Children with nerve interference may have sleep difficulties, weakened immunity (ear infections), and digestive issues such as reflux or constipation. Have you watched your child play outside or with their friends? They run, jump, fall, roll, and tackle every day. Do you think these activities may influence their spinal health? Many adults who come to a chiropractor’s office show evidence of childhood injuries that can be the cause for their pain today.
When do you think it is a good time to have your child’s spine checked for serious signs of spinal imbalances or misalignments? 65% of your child’s nervous system is developed by the age of 1 and 90% is developed by the age of 6. WOW! Just as it is important that you have your children’s teeth checked by a dentist, it is also important to have their spine checked regularly for proper alignment and development. The few minutes you invest in your child’s spinal checkup may save them from needless suffering now and in the future!
As a chiropractor, I love taking care of young children. It’s much easier to grow healthy children than to fix sick adults.
